City trip Barcelona – Part 1

A couple week ago I went to Barcelona for a city trip. I had wonderful time. The weather in Barcelona was far better then Holland. The average temperature was 22 degrees.

The city trip was more than successful! The hotel met our expectations: we chose a 4-star hotel between the coast and the city center, easily accessible by subway (5 stops) and we did not suffer from noise at night. As in Paris and London the metro network in Barcelona have several lines, each with his own color and route.

Mercat La Boqueria
While the Catalans do their daily shopping at the indoor food market at Mercat La Boqueria on Las Ramblas, we enjoy the fruits, various kinds of fresh fish…..The market people are used to tourists that come to Mercat La Boqueria to take pictures photo.

Parc Güell
After breakfast I went to Parc Güell. Park Güell is a garden complex with architectural elements situated on the hill of el Carmel in the Gràcia district of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It was designed by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and built in the years 1900 to 1914. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Works of Antoni Gaudí”.

From the subway station the sign indicate a 650 meters walk to the park. The last 200 meters is a steep climb up. After a long walk we were treated to have a beautiful view of part of Barcelona. The two skyscrapers at the Olympic Port Olimpic Port and La Sagrada Familia stabbing it clearly. We walked, enjoying the amazing views, on sandy paths to the central square, where you have a 152 meters long bank. Here you can spend one days quietly reading a book. What a quiet and clean air (comparing to the center).
